Insects: Vistaphotography

in nature many of my subjects come in a size almost too small for the human eye to make out details on. with macro photography I'm able to record images from a very small scale and record them at life-size or greater than life-size.
I love seeing the intimate details of this miniature world. Seeing the facets of a dragonflies all I were looking into the funnel spiders web to see his home.
I hope you enjoy the insects and arachnids that I find in nature and my garden.
my favorites to capture our brightly colored butterflies. Something about the many different patterns of color is just so pleasing to the soul.
feel free to visit my Scenic New England blog or my fall foliage blogs, Jeff foliage.com and New England foliage.com.

These plants produce specific chemicals that repel insects that try to eat them. American swallowtail larvae are resistant to these chemicals, so when they feed on the plants, the chemicals make them bad-tasting to bird predators.
Black Swallowtails are a fairly common but very pretty butterfly with a wingspan of about a 2.5 to 4 inches wide. They are easy to attract to host plants to lay eggs, and the caterpillars are easy to raise also.
When Black Swallowtail caterpillars are ready to pupate they tend to wander quite a distance from the plant they were eating. Before they wander off however, they defecate/poop one last time. They empty out their whole digestive tract so this last poop/frass is kind of runny or diarrhea like.
